Introduction: An unforeseen drama
It’s a seemingly ordinary morning in the peaceful village of Houlbec-Cocherel, located near Pacy-sur-Eure. However, tragedy looms on the horizon. On November 24, 2024, a devastating fire took place, ravaging a house and highlighting the often overlooked dangers of using wood stoves. The event left behind a community in shock, as well as a crucial reminder of the importance of home safety.
The start of the fire: A worrying situation
Around 9:30 a.m., the residents of the house 150 m² were faced with an alarming situation when the flames began to emerge. Initial indications suggest that the fire stemmed from using the wood stove, a device often perceived as safe and effective. However, this unfortunate incident highlights the need to ensure all facilities are properly maintained.
Rapid emergency intervention
Faced with the extent of the damage, an immediate reaction from firefighters was necessary. More than 20 firefighters were mobilized to contain and extinguish the disaster. The use of three lances was required to control the flames which threatened to consume the entire house.
Injured people taken care of
Unfortunately, the fire was not without repercussions. During the intervention, two men, aged 31 and 21 years old, were injured and had to be rushed to the hospital in Vernon. Their condition, although stabilized, serves as a reminder of how crucial it is to ensure the safety of everyone in these extreme situations.
